An American’s Story From Remote Parts Of Thailand by
(ContentDesk) December 12 2003--An American's story from remote parts of ThailandIn a small jungle village in Thailand lives an American, who is trying to help those less fortunate, and by doing so, is one of the very few, these days, who is making quite a positive image for the Stars and Stripes, in these trying times around the world. He's a former Vietnam vet who has seen his fair share of the bitterness of war and poverty and has decided to do something about it: offering kids a positive choice and chance in life, amid all the negative & violent ones. Michael Glatz is organizing computer classes for all the children in his village. Some of these kids are so poor they are forced to come to school without shoes. He has arranged to have the computers donated to the school by an International non-profit Computer Aid organization located in the United Kingdom. However, he must pay the shipping charges before the PCs depart and me must also buy the hardware to connect them to a two-way satellite ISP. When recently asked what had motivated him to do this project, Michael stated "I am just trying to improve my little corner of the world and want to do something to overcome all those negative headlines that we are bombarded with daily. I do not have the ability to call a press conference as do the likes of Britney Spears, Michael Jackson or Stefan Effenberg, but I am doing my best to get the word out and call for some help with this project. I hope that readers will actively embrace this positive cause, thus helping kids that have plenty of desire and drive, to help themselves."So Michael has set up the "Computers for Thai Kids" program and is trying to raise $3,000.00. This is one of the few programs that has no administrative fees or paid staff. All the money goes into the operation.($150.00 will pay for one computer to be set up). If you would like to help this cause and at the same time help our American image abroad, consider a donation, small or large. For contact information go to: http://members.cscoms.com/~mglatz.
