2004 Olympics Artist Rip Kastaris Creates Original Mural For Jimmi Yin's Asian Grill by
Jimmi Yin's Asian Grill & Wok Bar, a popular Pan-Asian restaurant offering more than 20 freshly-cooked entrees, now has an extraordinary and appealing new visual feature. It is a wall-sized mural created by famed artist Euripides "Rip" Kastaris, whose work ranges from interactive CD-ROM images for rock star Sting to glorious fine art prints commissioned by the 2004 U.S. Olympic Committee for this year's games in Athens."Ever since Jimmi Yin's opened, we have sought a way to symbolize the healthy lifestyle and delicious food traditions of Pan Asian nations," says owner Terry Bozzay. "Rip Kastaris' artwork is cool and increasingly well-known around the world. We are really pleased with the original mural he created for Jimmi Yin's because of its many colors and quiet symbols of good health and good luck.""Our customers are captivated by this mural and the mood it creates for Jimmi Yin's, and always comment favorably about it."The five-by-ten foot mural, installed by the artist at Jimmi Yin's early June 3, depicts golden fish, rolling, blue waves and a bounty of shrimp with oriental calligraphy, moonlit mountains, a rising sun, painted leaves, rice bowls and the face of a smiling princess, among other Pan-Asian icons. Michael Eckhard, a partner at Bream Marketing Group in St. Louis, considered Kastaris an artist whose talent for weaving timeless images and figurative icons into original art would have aesthetic appeal for Jimmi Yin's, and introduced him to Bozzay."The mural that Rip Kastaris created for Jimmi Yin's is terrific, and will be tastefully reproduced in other media," Eckhard says.Jimmi Yin's is a popular destination for people who value Pan-Asian menu variety, colorful food presentation and fast service in a smoke-free environment. All entrees, including eight noodle and rice bowls, plus fresh-cooked favorites such as Ginger Shrimp and a Thai Vegetable Toss, are priced between $5.95 and $9.95. Five salad meals and four different soups, including a lush, Pho Bowl of rice noodles, chicken, green onions and bean sprouts infused with ginger and chicken broth, are served. In addition to its colorful menu of fresh-cooked Pan-Asian fare and low-carb selections, Jimmi Yin's offer a Kids Menu of entrees, plus domestic, Japanese and Chinese beers. Vintage Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot wines are served by the glass.Healthy "low-carb" dishes at Jimmi Yin's include Asian Spinach Salad, Korean BBQ Chicken Breast and Green Curry Chicken, plus other choices. Cool Lettuce Wraps, made with flash-woked chicken, straw mushrooms, water chestnuts and green onions, is a popular appetizer. Desserts include Banana Wontons made with powdered cinnamon sugar and fresh wontons wrapped around banana slices, then flash-fried."Our colorful new mural enhances the entire experience," says Bozzay. "We are filling a void in the market for distinctive, high-quality, low-cost food that people can enjoy if they are in a hurry or if they want to take a ‘long lunch' or leisurely dinner." Kastaris says, "The Jimmy Yin's mural was a new challenge for me and I am excited about the Eastern spirit in its prominent display." Euripides "Rip" Kastaris has been an artist for more than 20 years and has been profiled in the PBS documentary series "The Greek-Americans." His studio, Petra Fine Art, Inc., is in St. Louis but his work is shown worldwide. His award-winning Olympic works include the "Fire and Ice" series, the 2004 Athena series, and the epic mural "Kyklos-Circle of Glory" for permanent display at the VIP center in Athens Olympic Stadium starting this year. Kastaris graduated from Washington University as Valedictorian of the School of Fine Arts.Jimmi Yin's Asian Grill & Wok Bar is open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturdays noon to 10 p.m.; and Sundays from 11:30 to 8 p.m. Take-out orders are welcome.
